What plate coating options do you offer?

We offer two coating options for our steel armor:

Base Coat

• Protects against moisture, sweat, and corrosion.
• Provides a durable protective finish for everyday use.

Build-Up Coat

• Includes all the benefits of the Base Coat.
• Adds a thicker coating designed to help reduce spall and bullet fragmentation following an impact.

What are trauma pads?

Trauma pads are protective inserts worn between your body and your armor plate. They are designed to help reduce the effects of backface deformation, which is the energy transferred through the armor when it stops a projectile.

While trauma pads can improve comfort and help reduce blunt force trauma, they do not increase the ballistic rating of your armor.

What plate cuts and curve options do you offer?

We offer several plate styles to accommodate different applications and preferences.

Swimmer Cut

• Multi-curve design for improved comfort and mobility.
• Features larger shoulder and side cutouts to allow greater freedom of movement.
• Commonly used as a front plate.

SAPI Cut

• Traditional military-style plate with 45-degree shoulder cuts.
• Offers excellent coverage and is commonly used as a rear plate.

ErgoLite Triple Curve

• Swimmer-style cut with an ergonomic triple-curve design.
• Features one horizontal curve across the chest and two lower side curves that contour around the torso for enhanced comfort during extended wear.

Why are your lead times shorter than many competitors?

We maintain a large inventory of steel by purchasing directly from both steel distributors and steel mills. This allows us to keep many products in stock instead of waiting for mill production runs, which can often take 3–5 months.

By maintaining inventory, we're able to fulfill most orders much faster than many manufacturers.

What is the difference between NIJ Levels IIIA, III, III+, and IV?

Level IIIA

• Designed to stop most common handgun rounds, including 9mm, .40 S&W, .45 ACP, and .44 Magnum.

Level III

• Rated to stop 7.62×51mm NATO (.308) M80 Ball ammunition.

Level III+

• Provides the same protection as Level III while offering additional protection against higher-velocity threats, including 5.56 NATO M193 and other common intermediate rifle rounds.

Level IV

• Rated to stop .30-06 M2 Armor Piercing (AP) ammunition under NIJ testing standards.

Always refer to the specifications for each individual product to confirm its tested threat rating.

What is the difference between single-curve, multi-curve, and triple-curve armor?

These terms describe how the armor plate is shaped to fit the body.

Single Curve

• One continuous vertical curve.
• Basic fit and the most economical option.

Multi Curve

• Multiple vertical curves for a more natural fit and increased comfort.

Triple Curve

• Includes multiple vertical curves plus a horizontal chest contour.
• Provides the closest anatomical fit and is generally the most comfortable option for extended wear.

Which steel target should I choose?

1/4" AR500 Steel

• Ideal for centerfire handguns up to .45 ACP.
• Excellent for 9mm, .40 S&W, and .22 LR.

3/8" AR500 Steel

• Our most popular option.
• Suitable for rifle calibers up to .308, including .223/5.56 and 7.62×39.
• Also handles powerful handgun calibers such as .44 Magnum and .500 S&W.

1/2" AR500 Steel

• Designed for larger rifle calibers, including .300 Winchester Magnum and .338 Lapua Magnum.

Always use the appropriate ammunition and maintain safe shooting distances.

How far away should steel targets be placed?

We recommend placing steel targets no closer than 10 yards unless otherwise specified for the target or firearm being used.

Always:

• Wear proper eye and hearing protection.
• Inspect targets before each use.
• Discontinue use of targets that are damaged or excessively deformed.

Safe shooting practices are the responsibility of the shooter.

Should I be concerned about ricochets?

Proper target setup greatly reduces the risk.

We recommend hanging or mounting steel targets with approximately a 20-degree forward angle, allowing bullet fragments to safely deflect downward toward the ground.

While proper setup significantly reduces ricochet risk, no target system can eliminate it entirely. Always follow established firearm safety practices.

What are your shipping and lead times?

Most in-stock products, including many steel targets, ship within 1–2 business days.

Made-to-order items, large target stands, and certain oversized products generally ship within 3–7 business days.

Transit times vary by destination but typically range from:

• 1–3 business days for smaller shipments
• 3–5 business days for larger shipments
